CoreFi is a broker, not a lender. We do not set rates and lenders make all credit decisions.
In short: Catering equipment finance spreads the cost of ovens, refrigeration, prep lines and full kitchen fit-outs over their working life, secured on the equipment itself. Commercial catering kit works hard and dates faster than most assets, so a lease often fits better than buying outright. Terms typically run 2 to 5 years. We are a broker: we place your case for UK limited companies and the lender sets the rate.
A commercial kitchen is a hard place to be an asset. Combi ovens run for hours a day, refrigeration never switches off, and extraction and dishwashers take constant punishment. That heavy use means catering equipment depreciates faster than plant or vehicles, and it is the reason the financing question is usually not just how to spread the cost, but which structure leaves you free to replace kit before it fails.
The mechanic is asset finance secured on the equipment. The lender funds the purchase and your limited company repays over an agreed term, commonly two to five years to match how long the kit realistically earns its keep. Hire purchase makes you the owner at the end and lets you claim Annual Investment Allowance on the full cost in the year of purchase, which suits durable, long-life items like stainless prep benches or a good walk-in cold room. A finance lease keeps title with the lender and you deduct the rentals as an expense, which often fits faster-moving items like combi ovens and refrigeration where you would rather upgrade than be left holding tired kit with little resale value.
Most of what we place is a fit-out rather than a single machine. A restaurant, dark kitchen, cafe, pub, hotel or contract caterer can wrap the whole kitchen, cooking line, cold room, extraction, warewashing and servery, into one facility rather than juggling separate agreements. Branded equipment from names like Rational, Hobart, Williams or Foster holds its value better than bespoke stainless fabrication, and lenders price accordingly.
The honest complication is the sector. Hospitality has a high failure rate, so some funders are cautious on a new restaurant or a young Ltd, and may want a larger deposit or a director guarantee where they would not on a manufacturer. Established operators with filed accounts get keener terms. The equipment is the lender's security, so it can be repossessed if you fall behind on the payments. No broker can promise a rate or an approval before a lender has seen the case. What we do is take your fit-out to the asset funders who actually have appetite for hospitality, and tell you which structure fits before you commit.
Key Benefits
- A finance lease on fast-moving kit like combi ovens and refrigeration lets you deduct the rentals as an expense and upgrade at the end rather than being left with tired equipment that has little resale value
- Hire purchase on durable items lets you claim Annual Investment Allowance on the full cost in the year of purchase, set against Corporation Tax
- A full kitchen fit-out, cooking line, cold room, extraction and warewashing, can be wrapped into a single facility rather than separate agreements per supplier
- The equipment is the security, so an established hospitality company can usually fund a refit without pledging property or draining the cash it needs for stock and wages
- Spreading a fit-out over two to five years lets you match the cost to the revenue a new site or menu is bringing in, rather than paying for the whole kitchen before it has served a cover
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I lease or buy catering equipment?
It depends on the item. Fast-moving kit that dates or wears, like combi ovens and refrigeration, often suits a finance lease, so you deduct the payments and upgrade at the end rather than being stuck with low-resale equipment. Durable, long-life items like a good cold room or stainless prep line can suit hire purchase to own with Annual Investment Allowance up front. Your accountant should weigh the tax position; we cannot decide it for you.
Can I finance a complete kitchen fit-out in one go?
Yes. Most catering deals we place bundle the whole kitchen, cooking line, refrigeration, extraction, warewashing and servery, into a single facility rather than a separate agreement for each supplier. That keeps one monthly payment and one term. Installation and some soft costs can sometimes be included, which the lender decides case by case.
Is hospitality harder to fund than other sectors?
It can be. Hospitality has a high failure rate, so some lenders are cautious on new restaurants or young limited companies and may want a larger deposit or a director guarantee. Established operators with filed accounts see keener terms. The kit still helps as security, but on catering the lender leans more on the strength of the business than it would on, say, a manufacturer's machine. We route the case to funders with genuine hospitality appetite.
Can I finance used catering equipment?
Yes, used equipment is financed routinely, including auction and ex-site kit. The lender assesses remaining useful life and condition, so branded equipment with a resale market attracts a better advance than bespoke fabrication or heavily used items. Older or specialist kit usually means a tighter advance and sometimes a larger deposit.
